Joe's Night Run At The HamptonsJoe's Night Run At The Hamptons is an 11-hour night time endurance event held at the Hamptons Golf Course in Hampton, VA.

July 29 - 8:15 pm to July 30 - 6:15 am

This is a "cart path only" event, meaning we'll be running only on the cart paths on a 4.4 mile loop (with options for a shorter final loop).

It's an old school, low-key event. We'll have lap counters (you yell out your bib number, we write it down). We will have pre-packaged aid for runners (see below). You will be able to crew directly out of your car.

This is an excellent event for those who have not run a night run before, as well as for veteran night-runners.

This event is named for the RD's father, who lost his brave four-year battle with brain and lung cancer August 1, 2021. Joe loved to golf and sparked his daughter's love of running. This is a special way to remember Joe was was a wonderful, amazing human being.

RefundsThere are no refunds if you cancel your registration. However, if you know you need to cancel, please do so as soon as possible to allow people on the waitlist an opportunity to run. We are limited to strictly 75 people.
About the endurance event itselfParking & Set Up: Parking begins at 5 pm. Please do not arrive before that as this is an active golf course. You will be able to crew out of your car for the event.

Parking starts at 6:00 pm

Check In: 6:45 pm - 7:30 pm

Race starts: 8:15 pm- July 29

Race ends: 6:15 am - July 30

You can run as much or as little as you want (because this is sponsored by Just A Training Run).

Temperature: Be prepared for the possibility of cooler temperatures. Running at night is always cooler than during the day. If this is your first night run please pack extra layers - it is better to have more and leave them in your car than not enough.

Runners are encouraged to have a hydration device (bottle, pack, etc...) for each loop. We will not have an aid station on the course, only at the lap check in.

Hydration: We will have bottled water available along with other bottled drink options (i.e. gatorade - we will post the drinks in advance of the event). .

Nutrition: We are only able to provide pre-packaged items only due to health code policies. Therefore we are not able to provide any soup or other warmed items. But - we will have a variety of goodies on hand, including PB&J, bananas, candy, granola bars, and other ultra-type fare. We'll provide a list of aid station items as the race event nears.

The route will be on the cart paths of The Hamptons Golf Course. The course will be marked with reflective streamers and glow sticks, along with turn signs. Once the final course is routed we will provide a map of the course and the mileage.

Runners will be able to make one shorter loop (2.4 miles) on their final lap. This will be marked. This does not have to be in the 5-6 am hour - runners may elect to finish earlier and needs to alert the lap counter that they will make the shorter route on their final lap.

This is NOT a flat course. This is a fun, yet challenging course that involves small hills that will prove to be a good challenge as you move farther into the night. The cart path is enough to allow about 3 people to run next to each other.

The race will begin with a loop around a connecting parking lot in order to spread out the runners before transitioning to the cart path loops.

We are STRICTLY limited to only the cart paths - we cannot run on the grass at any time, even if passing someone. We are hoping to hold this event again so please help us by running only on the cart paths.

AwardsWe'll have an award for the top 3 women and men. All finishers will receive a finisher's item (to be determined).

Mandatory Gear: Runners are required to have an illumination device on while running at all times.

Some more logistics:   We will have two portable restrooms rented for the event in the parking lot. There will be a restroom or two available on course. This is a strictly portable restroom only event - there is no option to use the course like one might do in a mountain ultra.

This is a manual loop count event. You will run up to the count tent and call out your number. Details for logistics for counting laps will be included in your race brief email.

The course will be set up so you will have your lap counted and then you can go to your car to crew. The parking lot is small and you will not have to "go out of your way" to get to your car for crewing. We cannot allow tents in the parking lot. Please contact the race director for any specific set up questions.
